History of Lakeside Community Church
In 1997 the Borough of Ebensburg decided it wanted a pedestrian walkway completely around Lake Rowena. Since the southeasterly corner of the Church property was in the flooded area of the Lake, the Borough needed to negotiate a right of way agreement with the Church to install this proposed walkway through Church property.
An alternative was for the Borough to purchase from the Church the property along the lake the Borough needed. This Borough project gave the Church an opportunity to eliminate the shared driveway west of the Church building. A property trade was transacted and a deed was signed on January 21, 1998 which gave the Borough its needed land (0.095 acres) for its full driveway width to the west of teh Church building. The Church property now contains a total of 1.67 acres.
In 2005 the Church Board decided it wanted the Church to become a mother church and plant a new church in the Altoona, Pennsylvania area. Rev. Ralph and Laura Johnson were hired and placed on the Church staff as the Associate Pastor and wife. The objective was to utilize the Johnson's to begin meetings (such as small group discussion meetings and/or prayer meetings) in or near Altoona. For some unknown reason(s) the objective was not successful; and after one year, the Johnson's were released from the Church staff. Bret Metcalfe was Pastor during this time.
In 2005 the Church platform was enlarged by the Church laymen. This would enable the Children's Ministries to present programs at both the Easter and Christmas Seasons which in turn would provide some additional ministry to the Ebensburg community. Larry Beunier carpeted the new Church platform. At this time the Sanctuary sound system was upgraded which required the removal of one Pew for installation of the sound system controls. The Sanctuary seating capacity is now about 190 persons without the placement of folding chairs.
In 2009 PENNDOT decided to replace its roadway (Rowena Drive) bridge over Howells Run; the bridge that contained the gravity sanitary sewer serving the Church. Rather than relocating and hanging the existing sanitary sewer pipe on the new bridge, the Church decided to convert the sewage system from an all gravity system to a pumped system. The Church hired a local Contractor who installed a holding tank into which was installed two sewage pumps. This project provided a sewage force main under Rowena Drive and across the Blowling Alley parking lot with discharge into the existing gravity sewer serving the Bowling Alley. A liquid level monitor was required in the holding tank with an alarm in the Fellowship hall. The alarm is in the utility room.
In August 2009 a baptismal service was held in the swimming pool at Chris and Shannon Curry's home along Allie Buck Road in Cambria Township. Bret Metcalfe baptized 12 persons at this event.
As of this writing in August 2011 the Record Attendance of Lakeside Community Church for both the Sunday School and Sunday morning worship occurred on Easter Sunday 2006.
Sunday School 168
Morning Worship 168
At the time of the above attendance record the Sanctuary was capable of holding about 190 persons. Fortunately the nursery and a Junior Church session held some of the attendees that morning.
